LISA ROBERTSON
An evening of poetry from the 2006 - 2007 Holloway Poet.
Lisa Robertson's poetry brings freshness and vehemence to what are aften formal examinations-- her work interrogates the changing shape of feminism, the idea of a lyric lineage, the canonization of a male-dominated philosophical tradition, the daily forms of discourse around which we organize our lives, and the formative and plastic possibilities of language itself. Her work achieves a remarkable range of effects: it can be beautiful but chilling, difficult but persuasive, haunting-- but wonderfully so. "Days heap upon us" she writes in The Weather, and so too do her absorbing lines and their multiplying meanings.
